Male Hemp Abstract | original canvas

$3,500.00

The shape-shifting cannabis sativa plant can be fickle with gender expression. A female plant that gets too hot or bothered by stressors, or is too thirsty or too wet, may freak-out and decide to take the reins of fertility into her own hands, to ensure the next seed generation makes it across the finish line.

Under duress, the female plant morphs into a ‘hermaphrodite’, producing both male and female flowers. That way, the female cannabis plant can literally take care of the baby seed making biz all by herself.

That said, under ideal growing conditions, true male and female hemp plants may be treated differently depending on the farmer’s goals. For a seed and fiber crop, the males will be cut down after they exude pollen, and female seed pods will be allowed to mature.

For a fiber only crop, both males and females will be cut after the male flower blooms. English hemp growers have long maintained that male plants produce finer and silkier cloth then females. Fiber strength, however, is slightly stronger in female plants as a recent study confirms.

Ok, so those female plants seem bad-ass and flexible. Male plants sound a little, dare I say, fragile. Not so! Remember these green guys can be your garden guardians chasing-off insects and pests with their aromatic terpenes.

These ‘canna-men’ plants also put the ‘D’ in diversity by adding genetic variety, to boost the overall health, resiliency, and legacy of a grower’s hemp crop.

A male hemp plant in full bloom in the wilderness is not a common visual image. You don’t see them in paintings in museums or galleries. Or on social media. Or even on greeting cards. It’s too abstract. Throw in some ladybug larvae and a couple of mushrooms; NOW you have alchemy potential. A sight even more rare.

Time to give these fast-growing hemp boys and girls a shout out!
Hemp fibers grown to make textiles and paper is an environmental opportunity available to nearly every region of the planet. Going local and regional is also a way to diminish supply chain issues and pollution.

Let this Male Hemp Abstract painting remind you of wild youth, potential to bloom, and that sometimes we may need a little bug to nudge us into a new field of experience.
