Intimate Crimson Poppy | original canvas

This is not a hemp plant. It's a classic corn poppy (Papaver rhoeas) that was part of my yearly wild flower seed-mix crusade. If the spring time moisture and the seed bank is plentiful, then our mountain meadow bursts into color!

Painting so many subtle shades of red had an allure and challenge to it. From tiny poppy seed to dancing plant in the alpine sunshine. To an iPhone captured moment that whispered: paint me. To the easel and first paint stroke, coaxing the timeless essence of this little poppy on to the canvas. This home-grown subject mingled and soul-tingled for a few moons to fully get here.
