Mom Loves Monarchs | Tea Towel

$19.00 - $36.00

Growing up on Florida's west coast, I was fortunate to live in a place of botanical beauty and fabulous fauna. One thing I don't remember seeing while living there however, was monarch butterflies. Several years ago, my mother insisted on the phone that she had seen them in her yard. Thinking she had mixed-up seeing an orange 'painted lady' with a monarch, I assumed that her Alzheimer's was confusing the issue.

About a year later during a visit to my parent's house, their outdoor schefflera umbrella tree was blooming and low and behold, several monarch butterflies were having a feast. Turns out that Florida is an important stopover for monarchs returning north from Mexico. Mom was right, she knew her butterflies!

This tea towel monarch butterfly, is poised on a 'cup plant' (Silphium perfoliatum) which gets its name from the “cup” that is formed by the adjoined, opposite leaves on the stems. This Aster-family perennial can reach nearly 8 feet tall! In summer, it produces a profusion of yellow flowers, making it a pollinator-friendly dining destination.

Let the uplifting colors of orange and yellow brighten your kitchen or wrap that house-warming-bottle of wine gift. Plus you'll be reminded to keep native, pollinator-friendly plants in your yard, that will support migrating butterfly populations.

This fabric is printed using permanent reactive inks that bond with the cell of the fiber, so the color will hold up to washing. The combo of organic cotton and hemp makes a strong textile. Hemp also gets softer with age, so this towel will wear beautifully!

74% organic cotton/ 24% hemp
