Right off the bat, the white leg horn commanded center stage, eagerly first to eat, bravely pecking at outstretched hand. Blondie was the only naming fitting, already the favorite hen of the strutting Jagger with iridescent green feathers on black.

One morning I caught Blonde eating near her rockstar-man. With a morsel in her beak she turned to pass it to Jagger. He leaned towards her. They missed. Pause. Try again. Score. Click went my iphone capturing this unbelievable moment of animal tenderness.

The classic rooster shape from tail-feathers to beak is a fascinating animal architecture to watch in action. The way the light would play-off the black-green feathers and the buoyancy of his plumage always commanded my attention.

I had a strong desire to capture this rooster-energy in paint or pin his actual feathers on a seductive hat. And yet, how could they be any more perfect then in the moment one sees them as they were meant to be in their original form. This is simply my humble attempt to share this majestic moment with a fellow-chicken enthusiast!

Heritage chicken breeds have been carefully developed and passed down through generations and cultures. These breeds are recognized for their hardiness, productivity, and historical significance. The backyard chicken Renaissance is alive and well thanks to the diversity these traditional breeds bring to post-modern homesteaders.
